MycoBank®
is F2G's validated platform technology for the identification of essential
genes in Aspergillus fumigatus. Advances in genomics and bioinformatics
allow for the translation of this information across fungal genomes thereby
identifying viable drug targets for the development of new anti-fungal
agents.
The identification of genes necessary for the survival and growth of A.
fumigatus is challenging. Traditional gene disruption or gene knockout
methods are inappropriate because the organism has only one copy of each
individual gene and disruption of essential genes would render the organism
non viable.
The MycoBank® process involves the random disruption of individual
genes within the A. fumigatus genome followed by the identification
of those genes that are essential for the survival and growth of the organism.
This technology permits the precise identification of the genes essential
to the survival of the fungus, without the need for any structural information
or with any preconceptions as to gene function.
By using MycoBank® derived gene targets and stringent validation steps
we deliver HTS screens based on genes that fit the clinical need for broad
spectrum anti-fungal agents. Our essential-gene to HTS output is exceptionally
fast, scheduled for 36 weeks.
